The music is intense and mixes perfectly jazz and rock, with an inspired Larry Coryell. It was a big surprise for me to find this CD and find out what is one of the best attempts of the guitarist. If you like Larry, Steve, Mike, and jazz rock movement this one must be in your list/5(13).

Jan 17,  · Recorded in , guitarist Larry Coryell 's Offering has often been overlooked because it was the album that was released just before the debut of his legendary fusion band the Eleventh House. It's too bad, too, since Coryell 's playing here is so inspired and free of the intellectual trappings of some of his later work.8/

Aug 26,  · Offering is guitarist Larry Coryell's first album to demonstrate his fascination with what John McLaughlin was doing with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, which he would later pursue more fervently with his Eleventh House ensemble. Unfortunately songwriting takes a backseat to the ever showboating solos of Coryell and the soprano sax of Steve Marcus/5(4).

Nov 16,  · This LP is quite a wild ride, with funky cuts and hard-driving jazz-rockers sharing space with mellow, melodic excursions. Steve Marcus soars on the soprano sax as Larry attacks the strings on "Foreplay," "Ruminations," "Scotland, Pt. 1," "Offering," "The Meditation of November 8th.

Larry Coryell loved jazz fusion, though he was never the preeminent star of the genre. His contemporaries were much better at crafting full-fledged songs. But Coryell wanted his own band and to have creative control, and for it we have some enjoyable, if somewhat dated albums.
